Current Projects

with Spring 2008 construction

South East Corner Lot of Ashmun and Portage Avenue will be constructed with 40 parking spaces, fountain, canopies and stage for events.

Gustafson Parking Lot:  Located by A Cut Above the Rest.  This parking lot will be redeveloped to provide pedestrian access to the Parking Structure and Ashmun Street.

TIFA 1 Projects

Sault Ste. Marie Downtown Parking Structure:

The Parking Structure was completed in winter of '05.  Its currently at 40% capacity

 

The Following is a Planned List of Development Activities for TIFA District 1

Gustfason Lot Improvements (next to Gillhooley Pharmacy and A Cut Above the Rest):  As soon as the parking structure is completed, we will begin lot improvements on this lot and surrounding properties.  Work on this project will begin during summer 2006.

Hallmark Lot Improvements:  Plans call for reconstruction of Court Street and the surrounding parking lots.  Design work will start during winter of 05-06

Fire Hall Lot Improvements:  Design work will start during winter of 05-06

Pocket Park Beautification:  The DDA beautification group recently planted over $2,500 in plants to help provide a more pleasing setting in the downtown pocket parks.

Streetscape Work On:  Peck St., Library St., Dawson St., Spruce St., Arlington St.,  

Osborn Blvd., Bingham Ave., Court St., Maple St. and Ridge St.

TIFA II Projects

Development of the SE Corner lot of Ashmun St. & Portage Ave.  Design work will begin this winter 2005 and the construction will take place during the summer of 06.

Maloney's Alley Pedestrian Improvements

Streetscape Work On:  Maple & Ridge St., E. Portage Ave, Water St.,  Bingham Ave., Osborn Blvd.

Historic District

The DDA is working to establish a National Register Historic District in the downtown.  This district would make tax credits available for revitalization of historic structures.
